Yet Another Haphazard Peanut Gallery

This is my second attempt at blogging. For the most part, the entires on this new blog will be about the daily grind that comes with living and training in Tokyo. There might not be many posts on aikido, but certainly expect to find a lot of ranting about Japanese society and shallow observations of budo, especially swordsmanship.

Seminar in LA

Haven't been very good about the whole blogging thing... but here, at last, is another post. The Bucho and I went to LA at the end of August and trained with the Sempokan boys and girls. We did whole days of kumitachi, cutting, then tests. Every night was a party, and the camaraderie was head over heels better than anything in Sushiland. I was impressed by the lack of back-stabbing, trash talking and political maneuvering in LA. The nice thing about there being only 100 or so people in the US spread out over a dozen locations practicing Meishiha would have to be that everyone is friends with everyone else! Everyone's up on their high horse over here in Tokyo, not realizing how much they actually suck. The main cause of all this is Gosoke's need to spread the art. When people who aren't ready are put in positions of power, the back stabbing begins in earnest. The international division of Meishiha rocks the Casbah. I'm burnt out on the Japanese side of things now that I've had the chance to see how everyone moves and shakes on the other side of the pond.
